How to Protect Your Computer from Viruses
Your computer is one of the most important pieces of tech in your life. You will want to make sure you have protected it against viruses that can cause some serious damage to both your computer and your data.
Download a Good Anti-Virus Software
There are many excellent anti-virus programmes on the market. They will perform scans to make sure there is nothing nasty lurking in the depths of your hard drive and will detect and deal with threats as necessary.
You do not have to pay a premium to ensure your computer is kept protected from threats. Microsoft provides a service called Microsoft Security Essentials, and Avast and AVG both offer brilliant free alternatives to their paid security suites.
Be Cautious of Emails
Your email inbox is one of the most common places threats will arrive. The email software should be able to pick up some of the threads and move them to your junk folder but some still manage to slip through the net.
A good rule of thumb to follow is to never click any links in an email from a source you do not recognise. Remember that emails can sometimes be hacked. If you receive a suspicious email from someone you know, check with them that it is legitimate and not a take-over from a suspicious threat.
Perform Regular Back-Ups
You can be as pro-active as possible in protecting your computer but sometimes a threat will still manage to slip through. In this event, you want to be sure that you have a way of recovering from any potential damage it may cause.
Valuable data should always be backed up to prevent it from being lost forever. You can do this in a number of ways. There are many external hard-drives on the market for a reasonable price, or you could back up to an online cloud software like Google Drive or Dropbox.
